Episode 1: Racer comes to Switch and PS4 with special edition options

In 1999, LucasArts released what’s arguably the best sports, racing and film tie-in title available on Nintendo 64, Star Wars Episode 1: Racer. In 2020, the game will receive the collector’s edition treatment for PC and modern consoles thanks to publisher Limited Run Games.

Three editions will be available starting 10 a.m. Friday, July 10.

The $90 collector’s edition pictured above includes the game on Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 4, a metal coin, SteelBook case, metal commemorative model of the original cart and reproduction packaging, enamel pin of Anakin’s racing flag, a reversible poster, a booklet of writings from those involved in the original project and a certificate of authenticity. All will come housed in a sleek themed box.

The photo above lists the collector’s edition as an open pre-order, but Limited Run’s Twitter account states it’ll be available in limited quantities at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m July 10. We recommend trusting the latter, as it falls in line with Limited Run’s usual availability for collector’s editions.

A classic edition will be available on a 4-week open pre-order and will include the game on Switch or PS4, poster, commemorative model of the original cart and reproduction packaging for $60. The base edition of the game on Switch and PS4 will receive the same open pre-order. Pricing hasn’t been announced for the base edition, but previous Star Wars console titles from Limited Run have sold for approximately $35.

Star Wars Episode 1: Racer on PC will be shipped in packaging that resembles classic Star Wars Episode 1 action figures. Like the console collector’s edition, this will be available in limited quantities. No pricing details were revealed.

This newest way to own Star Wars Episode 1: Racer follows Limited Run’s reproduction N64 cart, as well as the game’s recent addition to the digital marketplaces of Switch and PS4. Its 2002 sequel, Star Wars Racer Revenge, is also available via digital platforms.
