At E3 2019, Limited Run Games stated intentions to reprint a series of classic Star Wars games for their original platforms. At 10 p.m. and 6 p.m. ET today, the North Carolina-based company will launch two finite batches of pre-orders for Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back on NES and Game Boy, as well as Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire for Nintendo 64.
The Empire Strikes Back comes on specialized packaging reminiscent of Star Wars action figures and is $39.99 for both the Game Boy and NES versions. A $84.99 special edition is available for each that includes the game, a commemorative coin, double sided poster, art cards, instruction booklet, certificate of authenticity, box packaging and an enamel pin that differs based on which cart is purchased.
JVC originally released The Empire Strikes Back for NES in 1992. Players control Luke Skywalker as he journeys through locales from the game’s source material and learns more about his connection to the Force. The Game Boy version is a port of this game.
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire is $44.99 on cart with packaging that accurately recreates the way Shadows of the Empire action figures were packaged for store shelves, or $89.99 with a special edition that includes the game, a commemorative coin, poster, art cards, instruction booklet, certificate of authenticity, box packaging and an enamel pin.
Set between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Shadows of the Empire was a mid-’90s Extended Universe project that told its story through books and comics, as well as merchandise like action figures and trading cards. The Nintendo 64 game based on the novel was released in 1997 and is a third person shooter featuring rebellion member Dash Rendar.
