Extended version of Alien soundtrack coming to vinyl

Alien (1979) pre-dates the invention of the World Wide Web in 1989, but it isn’t immune to the web’s influence—the movie holds a 97 percent positive rating from review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes and is considered a classic.

At 1 p.m. Eastern Wednesday, May 22, Mondo will begin accepting pre-orders for a new pressing of the soundtrack to Alien.

The gatefold double LP will be pressed on green vinyl and will include a different version of the soundtrack than the original vinyl pressing. It seems the original recording was truncated for its vinyl release—this time, Jerry Goldsmith’s score will be recreated in its entirety, as originally recorded for the 1979 film.

This gatefold release is on alien blood green vinyl and features art inspired by the film.

Copies are $35 each and are expected to ship in June.

Since its release, Alien has received three sequels, two prequels and two crossover films with another science fiction mainstay, Predator. In 2019, Alien’s 30th anniversary celebration includes a number of short films, available here.
